Pipe Dreams

You can now order this bizarre e-bike that looks like an actual pipe

Sol Motors' electric bicycle, the Pocket Rocket, is really real and you can order it now.

After a while, electric bikes can all start to look the same. If that homogeneity is something that bothers you, Sol Motors may have the perfect, cylindrical, solution to your e-bike anguish.

Meet the Pocket Rocket

This isn’t actually the first time the world has laid eyes on Sol Motors’ pipe-like e-bike (Electrek highlighted this strange EV in 2018), but it is the first time you’ll actually be able to order one.

$6,917

Starting this week, the Germany-based company is accepting pre-orders with a $578 deposit.

Outside of its unique appearance, the Pocket Rocket’s pipe also enables what Sol Motors calls a “naked” design — all of the e-bikes components are housed inside the cylindrical, aluminum frame, including its removable battery.

There are two tiers of the Pocket Rocket, which includes a faster Pocket Rocket S. The stock version will have a top speed of 28 mph while the S will have a significantly faster ceiling of...

50 mph

This pipe can haul.

50 miles

Both bikes have an approximate range of 50 miles per charge on its lowest power settings.

If you’re reading this in the U.S., we have some bad news: the weird looking pipe bike is Europe-only for right now. Currently, the Pocket Rocket will ship to Germany, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark, France, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, and Spain.
