BMW’s just revealed everything about its futuristic electric scooter

A rocket ship-like design separates BMW's CE 04 from the electric scooter pack.

BMW’s angular e-scooter concept is actually coming to life and it looks just as futuristic in this production version as it did in its prototype phase.

Introducing: the BMW CE 04

This rocket-like electric scooter is BMW Motorrad’s first offering in a line of commuter-focused urban mobility EVs, and as such, comes with a few specs and features that will appeal to the city-centric potential e-scooter owner. For example...

2.6s

The amount of time it takes to get to 31 mph.

75 mph

The CE 04 also has a top speed of 75 mph, making it fast enough for highways.

Charging-wise, the CE 04 is also designed for convenience. BMW says that the scooter can be charged via a regular wall outlet using its standard 2.3 kW charger or a (more expensive) 6.9 kW fast charger.

The former will top up the scooter in about four hours while the latter will charge from 0 to 100 percent in under two hours.

80 miles

The CE 04 has 80 miles of range on its battery pack.

Feature-wise, the CE 04 also comes with a few perks that might appeal to urban commuters, including this helmet compartment and a charging chamber for riders to store their phones in. Onboard navigation is an added bonus.

If the CE 04 strikes your fancy, we have some not-so-great news. For one, you’re going to have to wait a while to actually buy one, and second, it’s not going to come cheap.

$16K

Pretty costly for an e-scooter.

2022

The CE 04 will be available sometime next year.
